Follow my passion or work in MNC?
Should I follow my passion or do my day job efficiently. Everyday I am pulled in two different directions because of these 2 ideas and not able to do either of it properly.
There are number of influencers asking me to start following my passion, not to work for someone else, work on things you are passionate about. Few of these are even screaming at me, to hustle, work hard till my account balance looks like my mobile number, to work during day time and do side projects during night.
Why is no one asking me to do my day to day work passionately? Why is no one teaching me, how to find passion in work I do, work I already have? How to find happiness in work I have?
Ok, let’s question the word passion itself. Consider I have passion of playing chess. Will I be passionate about playing it, if:
- I have to play it everyday, from 9 to 5 or say at flexible timings but 8 hours a day
- I have to read number of books about how to play chess.
- To make income out it, I have to start my youtube channel, Instagram channel, TikTok channel, Tweet about it, make daily videos, image posts, have to make courses around it and have to worry about endless analytics around what is working on what social media at what time.
Will all these tasks will convert my passion to play chess, actually feel like daily job, from which I am running?
Here are few other questions I have:
- What is passion?
- Is passion working on things I enjoy?
- What makes me enjoy things I work? Is it money, is it external appreciation or something else?
- Why we feel passionate about Instagram likes, or scores on games?
- Why is suddenly every one have started talking about passion?
I may have answers to all this, but then these answers will be for appropriate for me, in my own context.
What I want, is you to find your own answers. Before just blindly following whatever social media (a highly intelligent platform, which will do everything to keep you engaged) is throwing at you, question everything. Be curious.
